This comprehensive exterior transformation dramatically elevated both the curb appeal and backyard functionality of this painted-brick home, starting with a welcoming custom gabled portico and classic brick walkway that create a stunning first impression. In the back, we integrated a vaulted screened-in porch, an open grilling deck, a shaded lower-level patio, and custom hardscaping to deliver a sprawling, multi-level woodland retreat and cohesive year-round oasis.
A Grand First Impression
The project began with a massive boost to the home's curb appeal. We designed and built a custom gabled portico over the front entrance, featuring architectural columns and a stunning wood-paneled ceiling. We paired this with striking black exterior shutters, matching black metal handrails, and a unique rain chain feature, perfectly complementing the home’s painted brick exterior and inviting guests inside via a restored brick walkway.
Bringing the Indoors Out
In the backyard, the goal was to blur the lines between indoor comfort and outdoor living while taking full advantage of the property's beautiful wooded backdrop. We constructed a spacious screened-in porch directly off the main living area. By incorporating a vaulted beadboard ceiling and large screen panels, the space feels bright, airy, and inviting. Offering the perfect, bug-free environment to enjoy a morning coffee or relax on a cool evening.
Multi-Level Entertaining & Custom Hardscaping
A truly great outdoor space needs to be highly functional for entertaining crowds of any size. Transitioning from the protected screened porch, an open-air composite deck offers the perfect grilling zone. From there, a custom staircase leads down to the ultimate lower-level oasis.
By utilizing a watertight under-deck ceiling system, we essentially doubled the home's usable outdoor footprint. The massive lower patio is fully protected from the elements, allowing the homeowners to host dinner parties rain or shine. This space steps down effortlessly into a flowing paver layout, terminating at a seamlessly integrated fire pit area. Framed by a sweeping masonry wall that doubles as built-in seating, every inch of this property was meticulously crafted by the Paragon RVA team to provide a flawless, unified exterior transformation.

Front Portico & Curb Appeal: A newly constructed gabled front entryway featuring custom-wrapped columns, a beautiful wood-paneled ceiling, and a decorative rain chain leading to a custom stone drainage basin. The entry is completed with sleek black aluminum railings and a classic brick walkway.
Screened Porch: A custom-built screened enclosure featuring a soaring vaulted ceiling finished in crisp white beadboard. Complete with an overhead ceiling fan and wide screen panels designed to maximize airflow and provide unobstructed views of the wooded backyard.
Upper Decking & Stairs: High-performance, low-maintenance composite decking in a warm, natural wood tone. The space is safely enclosed by modern black aluminum railings and balusters. Perfectly matching the new front porch, with a coordinating composite staircase providing access to the lawn below.
Lower Covered Patio: A premium dry-space under-deck ceiling system allows for a fully protected secondary entertaining area below. This expansive level features bright white wrapped columns, elegant black wall sconces, and a durable paver stone floor with plenty of room for lounging and dining.
Custom Hardscape & Fire Pit: A flowing paver layout that steps down effortlessly from the covered patio into the yard, terminating at a dedicated fire pit zone. This area is anchored by a custom-built, curved masonry retaining wall that doubles as built-in bench seating.
Exterior Integration: The entire build, from the front portico to the rear multi-level addition, was carefully designed to tie perfectly into the home's painted brick exterior, utilizing matching black metal accents and cohesive trims for a unified, high-end finish.
